Our mission is to provide round trip transportation and accommodations from Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport in Springfield, Illinois for any World War II veteran who wishes to visit the World War II Memorial and other memorials in Washington, D.C. This day trip is provided completely free of charge to the veteran in honor of his/her service.
What is Honor Flight : The Honor Flight program is a nation-wide network dedicated to providing WW II veterans a free trip to Washington, D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service and sacrifice. Springfield has established a newly formed 501 (c )3 non-profit hub for the Honor Flight Network. Our Executive Board with elected Officers governs the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight hub. We are offering memberships and utilize volunteers in order to accomplish this mission.
All expenses for this one-day trip are the sole responsibility of the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight including the flight, ground transportation, meals/snacks, beverages, and all incidentals. The trip is provided absolutely free of charge to the veterans; they cannot spend their own money. Trained volunteer guardians will provide assistance and accompany our veterans on their flight. We also give top priority on every flight to a veteran of any war who has a terminal illness.
Our WW II veterans have waited over 60 years to get their very own memorial in Washington, D.C. and, unfortunately, they are dying at a rate of 1200 per day, time is ticking away. We plan to give our veterans a meaningful and much-anticipated opportunity to see their memorial before time runs out. Our maiden flight is scheduled in May with many more to come.
